Territorial evolution of Minas Gerais state: municipality boundaries since 1711
Abstract
This essay presents in a series of 16 maps the evolution of the limits of the municipalities in the State of Minas Gerais from 1711 to 1995. That was only possible after working on the lists produced by state departments which specify all municipalities and the ones where they were separated from. In addition, it lists the various names applied to the territory and presents a brief historical and applied legislature review. It concludes with some analytical results and it is expected to be useful for those who are interested in using its tables and maps in order to withdraw further analysis from the database now available.
