The systems approach in Geography
Abstract
The systems approach has great applicability in Geography. In the last two decades has occurred intesen renovation in all the sectors of the geographic science. Begining with the defenition of systems, this paper deals about the composition (mass, energy, struture) and classifications (using the functional and structural criteria) of systems. The feed-back mechanisms, the equilibrium concept and the allometric growth have special attention, focusing the basic ideas and some geographic instances. An item is dedicated to analytical aspects of the systemic approach, with considerations about the functionality, closure, envitonmente, equifinality, complexity of relations input-output, sate and the antecipatory qualities of the systems.
