Abstract

The aim of the work is to evaluate the damage of the springs for the use and land cover in the municipality of Correntes, Pernambuco. Maps were generated from cartographic bases (vector and raster files), treated in a GIS platform (QGIS 3.16.2). Eight springs were mapped in the field, using a mobile receiving device (Garmin 64x GPS). The study area presented 9 classes of land use and coverage, in which the Grassland class presented greatest coverage; The subdeciduous forest formation, characterized by losing its leaves during the dry season, is the fragment that has the highest frequency in the municipality of Correntes; Northeast, East, Southeast and South regions stand out as priority areas for use and management in the municipality of Correntes. These deserve greater attention from public managers and private owners, because these regions present the last remnants of native vegetation formation; The greater aggregation of springs occurs in the Northeast, East, Southeast and South regions of the municipality, coinciding with the occurrence of areas vegetated by forest remnants.
