The Fraction Hour: a small sociology of vampires in Mathematics Education
Abstract
An analogy is drawn in this article between the imagination associated with vampire stories and the research and concerns of teachers related to the teaching of fractions, mainly with respect to early elementary education. It is proposed that fractions not be referred to in terms of representing the part-whole relation, as in this context, the object denominated “fraction” is not a number. Key-words: Fractions. Mathematics Education. Curriculum. Elementary Education.Downloads
