ENVIRONMENTAL ZONING PROPOSAL FOR THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC REGION OF THE TAQUARI VALLEY- RS

Abstract

The maps historically have been used as primary source of information, being a visual instrument of the human perception and a way to get the register and analysis of the landscape. In this context, this article looks for to evidence the use of remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques with sights to elaboration the environmental zoning of the Taquari Valley, Rio Grande do Sul, region formed by 37 cities. The cartographic base used to generate the thematic maps was extracted from topographical maps elaborated by the Army Geographic Service, in scale 1/50,000. Landsat satellite images were used to generate the land use and land cover. The environmental zoning enabled to evidence the lack of the land use and land cover planning. The data presented in this paper are important in attempt to surpass the problems of the development and to reduce the deterioration of the environmental quality on Taquari Valley.
