This study aims to report a successful experience conducted with 7th graders to discuss death, the act of dying, and the dead in the light of the subjects of History and Philosophy. In total, 32 students enrolled in the 7th grade of elementary education at a private school in the countryside of São Paulo participated in the intervention. Students were first invited to reflect upon the concepts of finitude and existence, investigating how different religions understand death, as well as the main funeral and mourning rituals in different cultures. To adopt an ethnographic approach, students made two visits to the city cemetery, conducting interviews and making photographic records. By the end of the project, students organized an exhibition on the theme with the participation of the entire school community. This intervention is expected to trigger school actions aimed to address this important topic for students’ formation, especially in times when such a discussion emerges in a ubiquitous way in the educational and socialization processes.
