The book Conscientização: teoria e prática da libertação (1979), by Paulo Freire, presents concepts for the liberation of the individual through consciousness worked through literacy. The text succinctly reports the author's biography, explains the relevance of dialogue and knowledge in a social context, the development of criticality and praxis to achieve the liberation of a marginalized and oppressed society, with support in raising awareness for this. The book is divided into three sections, which are described, respectively, as man and his experience, literacy and awareness and the practice of liberation, whose referrals lead us to the understanding of the need to develop, in the individual, the critical eye as a way of to achieve freedom and become an active social being, transcendent to literacy, which will foster self-criticism and personal evolution.
