Implications of Large-Scale Assessment for the Curriculum: findings from state schools in São Paulo

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the implications of large-scale assessment for the school curriculum, especially in the evaluation of learning. The aim is also to explore its potential for controlling and shaping school work. The study will be based on educational policy initiatives carried out in the state of São Paulo, discussing possible repercussions. Data from researches conducted in state schools will be presented, particularly those focusing on evaluating learning, such as Arcas’s (2009) and Freire’s (2008).
