Abstract
The Taubaté Basin is characterized by geologic heterogeneity resulted from rift tectonics, which divided the basin into compartments and influenced the sedimentation, constituted by alluvial fans associated to alluvial plain and lacustrine deposits of playa-lake type. Sandstone distribution in the basin was studied using 3D interpolation of sandstones facies, identified in selected log wells. The interpolation distinguished deposits in subsurface related to the Resende and Tremembé formations, as local zones in the compartments. Comparative analysis of rift structures and sandstone interpolation was able to deduce the sandstone distribution in three groups. The first group is related to the rift period, the second to a transitional event, well represented in São José dos Campos Compartment, and the third one to sediments deposited during Neogene and Quaternary period.
