Changing surface formations through anthropic activities can cause future problems in terms of land occupation. Therefore, these modifications need to be included in geotechnical characterizations and mappings. This study presents an approach for the characterization and mapping of technogenic deposits on a local scale, based on existing classification methodologies. For this, a comparative analysis of application was proposed at the Monjolinho tributary riverhead, located in the Jockey Club neighborhood, in São Carlos - SP. The characterization was based on the association of historical information, study of temporal changes in the landscape, survey campaigns and visual analyses. The proposal comprises the insertion of transient subclasses in the traditional classification and the mapping used the Spline interpolation technique and discrete representation, aiming to extrapolate the point information collected to demarcate the occurrence of deposits according to the established classes. Through a comparative analysis it was possible to verify that for the detail scales, the added subclasses allow a better representation of the material type information acquired, avoiding generalizations that, depending on the purpose of thematic mapping, may negatively impact decision making.
