Abstract

The teaching instruction in Physical Education is quite diversified. In many moments during high school, Physical Education is less appreciated by the educational system, by the school or by the students than other components. The objective of this study was to investigate the development of the knowledge associated to the teaching instruction and to the professional experience of a high school Physical Education teacher. The research was based on the qualitative approach, and it had a semi-structured interview and class observation as data collection instruments. For data analysis, four categories were elaborated: a) early education and continuous education; b) professional practice and school context; c) practical understanding and teenager students; d) syllabus and high school environment. Based on that, we consider that teaching instruction and professional experience are important to determine a good educational practice at school; and also that Physical Education can actually contribute to a significant education for high school students.

possui graduação em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1991), graduação em Pedagogia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1993), mestrado em Educação (Currículo) pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1995) e doutorado em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2002). Atualmente é professor da Universidade Federal de São Carlos. Tem experiência na área de Educação Física, com ênfase em Formação Profissional e Educação Física Escolar, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: educação física escolar, formação profissional e ensino superior.
