Abstract

Considering that works of art are sources to investigate representations of sport in a social and cultural context, this article aims to discuss the presence of sports in the Brazilian artistic production. We present the effort to survey and to analysis and interpretation of works of three different times: a) the nineteenth century and early decades of the twentieth century, b) “paulista” futurism and its developments (decades of 1930-1950), c) and new realism and narrative figuration (decades of 1960-1970). It is hoped that this study would be a contribution to what we have called of a promotion of a “social archaeology” of the sport, an investigation of its presence through the networks and social webs.
