Abstract

The propose of this paper was to evaluate the effect of gender in electromyographic activity and the isometric resistance time (IRT) of Multifidus and Iliocostalis lumbar muscles. Eight men and six women performed isometric lumbar extension in ventral decubit at 5%, 10%, 15% e 20% of maximal isometric voluntary contraction (MIVC) until exhaustion. The results demonstrated that there was not any difference int RMS slope; the women presented a higher IRT at 5% load and higher FM slopes in both muscles at 5%, 10% e 15% of MIVC and in the 20% for IC. The men presented higher IRT in relationship to the men. In both genders the electromyographic results were differents in function of intensity of load that will allow understand better the low back pain due the selective fatigue and develop programs of exercises differently to both muscles.
