The purpose of this study—using a combination of peak velocity (PV), heart rate at 8 km.h-1 (HR8), as well as interpolated velocity of 150 and 170 bpm—was to estimate how ventilatory thresholds (VVL1 and VVL2) evolve during treadmill running. Twenty subjects for the validation group (GV) and thirteen subjects for the cross-validation group (CVG) were submitted to a test with increments of 1 km.h-1. min-1 of exertion until exhausted. Multiple regression analysis (stepwise) was used to generate the following equations: [VVL1 (km.h-1) = -0.78 + 0.67 • PV; r = 0.75; SEE = 0.98 (12.2%)] and [VVL2 (km.h-1) = 2.51 + 0.61 • PV; r = 0.87; SEE = 0.55 (5.1%)]. The predicted velocity for CVG was significantly lower for the VLV1 only. The sub maximal variables were not computed in the equations. The results suggest that, when the maximum variable is used as an independent variable, only VLV2 can be satisfactorily predicted.Downloads
